The skin is an incredible organ. A dermatologist is a medical doctor who specializes in conditions that affect the skin, hair, and nails. Whether it's rashes, wrinkles, psoriasis, acne or worse, no one understands your skin conditions and treatment better than a board certified dermatologist. A dermatology appointment is your first step towards improved skin health and appearance.
As we get older, many adults don't realize that they may at risk for developing Adult Eczema. Infants and toddlers are typically eczemas' primary demographic. More than 30 million adults across the country suffer from this common, annoying skin condition that is characterized by redness, dryness, itching, and possible flaking of skin on various parts of the body.
Acne is a common skin condition comprised of pimples, blackheads, whiteheads, cysts, lumps, bumps, and/or any plugged pores that occurs mostly on the face, chest, and/or back. While teens most are most commonly affected, acne can affect anyone. Acne may cause mental health problems by distorting one’s facial features. Severe acne can lead to permanent scars. Treatment can involve different modalities, including; topical and/or oral medications, peels, and light or laser therapy.
Atopic dermatitis, more commonly called eczema, is a group of skin disorders that generally first appears in infants and toddlers. It is caused by many factors including skin irritation, allergic reactions, or other inherited conditions. While not contagious, it can make the skin red, itchy, and even cause bleeding in extreme cases. While there is no cure for eczema, using the proper medications along with skin hygiene can greatly improve quality of life and reduce the severity and pain of eczema.
Rosacea is a chronic skin condition of the central face and sometimes the eye. Rosacea can lead to flushing, blushing, burning, as well as pimples. In severe cases, rosacea can cause thickened skin and sometimes an enlarged nose. There is evidence that heat exposure, intense exercise, stress, alcohol, and spicy foods can worsen symptoms of rosacea. While rosacea has no cure, a variety of treatment options are available that may control outbreaks and improve physical appearance.
Psoriasis is a chronic skin disorder that can cause itchy, red marks, and thick white scales on nearly any part of the body. Psoriasis can affect all ages and, while not contagious, it may have a genetic predisposition. It is normally not a life-threatening skin condition. Cuts, scratches, stress, infections, cold weather, smoking, and sometimes certain medicines can lead to flare-ups.
Repeated overexposure to the sun and its ultraviolet radiation without proper protection such as sunscreen, large brimmed hats and long-sleeved clothing, can lead to a wide variety of serious conditions such as solar keratoses and skin cancer. A comprehensive screening will include an exam of my scalp, face, mouth, hands, feet, trunk and extremities, eyes and eyelids, ears, fingers, toes and even toenails.
Melanoma can grow very quickly. It can become life-threatening in as little as 6 weeks and, if untreated, it can spread to other parts of the body. Melanoma can even appear on skin not normally exposed to the sun. The primary risk factors for melanoma are exposure to ultraviolet (UV) light, typically from the sun and tanning beds. Early detection is critical.
Allergic contact dermatitis is an itchy rash caused by an allergic reaction to a substance (the allergen) that comes in contact with the skin. Successful treatment requires identification and removal of the allergen. When identifying the responsible allergen is not clear, Derm Texas can perform a patch test to find out whether and which allergen may be causing or exacerbating the rash.
Warts can be unsightly and embassing. They are caused by a virus that make skin cells grow uncontrolled, usually on the hands and feet. While warts themselves (and the subtypes of virus that cause them) are not typically dangerous or cancerous; removing them will keep warts from spreading.
Skin tags (also called skin tabs) are common and unsightly. They are soft harmless lesions that grow all over our bodies. Most people try to hide these irritating tiny tumors because they feel embarrassed. You’re more likely than not, to end up with one of these repulsive protuberances somewhere on your body. Skin tags do not affect your health and removals are a simple and almost pain free procedure.
Moles are caused when cells in the skin called melanocytes grow in clusters. They produce melanin which is the natural pigment that gives skin its color. Moles result from UV stimulation (i.e. Sun Exposure). Most moles don't require treatment. But you might want to have a mole removed if you're unhappy with how it looks or feels. It is important however, to have a dermatologist determine if the mole is benign.
Participants in a research trial may receive access to the latest in medical innovations, drugs, and therapies. Under close monitoring of highly-trained physicians, nurses and professionals, contributions to advancements of science and medicine are pursued and often acheived. Participants receive a comprehensive medical exam and diagnostic tests (at no cost) with priority, from highly trained and knowledgeable dermatologists.
Clinical trials don't require participants to haveinsurance, and many trials will compensate (i.e. pay money) to volunteers.Â
