Rosacea

Over 14 million people suffer from Rosacea

It may first appear as a tendency to blush more easily than others (which initially may be a cute trait). Unfortunately and eventually, this redness may spread to other areas of a person’s body including their neck, chest, back, or ears. Ultimately, not only is rosacea embarrassing, it can be unbearably painful (both physically and mentally).

Rosacea is a chronic skin condition of the central face and sometimes the eye. Rosacea can lead to flushing, blushing, burning, as well as pimples. In severe cases,

Rosacea can cause thickened skin and sometimes an enlarged nose.

If the eyes are affected, people may experience dryness, irritation, itching, burning and swelling of the affected eye. There is evidence that heat exposure, intense exercise, stress, alcohol, and spicy foods can worsen symptoms of rosacea. Flare-up of symptoms for rosacea may include hot or spicy food, alcohol, emotional stress, heat, saunas, and smoking.

Acne-like breakouts may appear

Women seem to be more likely to have rosacea, but men tend to suffer from more severe rosacea symptoms. Derm Texas  will create a personalized Rosacea treatment plan just for you.

Exactly what causes rosacea is a mystery; however, symptoms seem to often run in families. In particular people with fair skin, blonde hair and blue eyes. Odds are increased for Rosacea for females between the ages of 30 – 50. Some believe that even those with an English, Irish, or Scottish heredity may increase probabilities of developing Rosacea. While rosacea has no cure, simple things to avoid or reduce flare ups might be to:

  • Wear Sunscreen (SPF 40 or higher)
  • Use Rosacea friendly skincare products
  • Wear green tinted makeup
  • Reduce the triggers of stress, alcohol, etc.
  • Avoid smoking or second hand smoke

Luckily, there are also a variety of treatment options available that may control outbreaks and improve physical appearance. Some of these include:

Laser or Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) therapy.

A dermatologist may recommend prescription creams, pills along with several other options, such as injections. Derm Texas and Derm Texas Spa offer a plethora of successful protocols available for you to consider. We invite and welcome you into our dermatology family and look forward to serving you.
