It's that time of year again.
We’ve all been there. We have fallen asleep at the beach, lounged too long by the outdoor pool, missed “that spot” with sunscreen, or forgot to re-apply the sunscreen. And yes, we have all suffered the consequences.
If this happens to you again, follow these tips on what to do after too much sun:
- Cool down. Once you're out of the sun, immediately take a cool shower or bath to help soothe the sunburn.
- Moisturize. After a cool shower, use a moisturizer that contains aloe vera on the affected area.
- Hydrate, Hydrate Hydrate.
- Lay down - preferably in an air conditioned place.
- Stay out of the sun. Do Not go back out too soon!
- Watch for serious symptoms. If not allergic, maybe take Tylenol, Motrin or Aspirin to ease the pain.
Addressing signs of UV damage, preventing sunburns and skin problems in the future all starts with taking a few proactive steps to protect yourself from the sun.
Even if you're just running a quick errand, it's crucial to remember to put sunscreen on your face, wear a hat and sunglasses, and cover up exposed skin. Taking the time to provide your skin with proper protection from direct and even indirect sunlight will payoff in the long run with healthier, wrinkle-free skin for years to come.
