Scars may result in development of post-traumatic stress reactions, loss of self-esteem and being stigmatized, leading to diminished quality of life.
Those with scars may undergo a remodeling of their emotional state and can be more prone to the development of depression and anxiety; feelings of shame and aggression can follow. This creates strain in social interactions, resulting in stunted communication, reduced intimacy, and avoidant behaviors. Young adults and teenagers and 'tweens are the most impacted by Acne Scarring. It is vitally important to let a dermatologist analyze, diagnose and prescribe proper treatments at the earliest sign of Acne. If caught early, permanent scarring could be avoided.Â
Does scar removal work? Generally scars can't be completely removed; however, studies have shown that Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) or laser therapy can effectively minimize a scar's appearance and thickness.  There’s no extended downtime with either IPL or Laser treatment, so you don’t have to worry about too much time off work.  You may be able to return to work the next day or within a few days.
IPLÂ stands for intense pulsed light and is a noninvasive treatment.
IPL is the more recent technological advance in scare removal. It is designed to address discoloration and improve skin tone and texture. It is especially well-suited to hyperpigmentation, sun spots, acne scars, redness, rosacea, and broken capillaries.
IPL is great for acne scars because it can address multiple issues simultaneously. For example, IPL can address both the discoloration (both hyperpigmentation or hypopigmentation) and scar tissue related to pitted acne scars.
In addition, because of IPL's ability to breakdown excess melanin, IPL is ideal for acne scars that present with post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.
An IPL treatment for scar revision targets the redness of the scar. The beams of light penetrate the outer layers of the skin, and because the wavelengths are attracted to the pigment of the scar, no damage is caused to the surrounding skin tissue.

Laser Therapy Scar Removal
Results aren’t always instant. It may take weeks or months before you notice a difference.
Laser treatment for scars is a relatively easy and low risk procedure. Our doctor or Derm Texas professionally trained technician, repeatedly moves a laser wand over your skin to remove damaged skin cells and diminish scars. These include:
- injury scars
- burn marks
- acne scars
- dark spots, age spots, and other types of hyperpigmentation
Keep in mind that you may need more than one laser treatment to get your desired results.
When a scar becomes permanent, laser treatments can be used to remove the outer layer of the damaged skin’s surface. They basically smooth the skin to improve tone and appearance. These lasers are also used to target blood vessels in the scar tissue and reduce redness. They can also penetrate the skin’s surface to stimulate the production of new skin cells.
For Laser therapy, According to the University of Michigan’s Department of Dermatology - on average, a single laser treatment to improve the appearance of a scar costs between $200 and $3,400.
Regardless of treatment and prescribed therapies, Derm Texas will design an affordable treatment plan and work with you to fit the cost into your budget. In most cases, the cost will be nowhere near the higher end of average prices per the University of Michigan study.
